Call for Laboratory Rotations
Applications open year-round.
High quality research in infectious diseases requires the combination of classical (e.g. protein chemistry, molecular genetics and medical microbiology) and advanced state-of-the-art technologies (e.g. imaging methods, proteomics, structural biology, next generation sequencing, RNAi based high throughput approaches, systems biology, bioinformatics etc.). The DZIF Academy promotes laboratory rotations in order to foster a deeper understanding of these methods and help master targeted applications.
It is the aim of the DZIF Academy to make its members aware of the potential and specific applications in infection research and to facilitate exchange, training and use of these facilities. This will lead to cross-fertilisation and more efficient use of expensive investments and sophisticated methods inside and outside the DZIF. The use of multidisciplinary approaches will further improve the quality of research and facilitate success as well as foster the mutual understanding of basic researchers and clinicians, which is important for bridging the gap between basic research and clinical application.
Applications open year-round. When determining the dates of your rotation, please consider at least six weeks for evaluation.
The DZIF Lab Rotation Programme comprises a maximum of 1,500 euros per recipient for European exchanges and a maximum of 2,500 euros for a stay abroad. It covers the costs of travel and accommodation for short laboratory exchanges. The applicant’s home institution covers daily provisions by continuing regular salary payment. Lab Rotations between DZIF sites will be prioritised. An external/international exchange is only possible if a certain technique or expertise is not available within the DZIF. A corresponding justification or proof is then required.
Lab Rotation Programme: Who can apply?
The Laboratory Rotation Programme is available to physicians and scientists at DZIF institutions. Please send a single-file PDF application with the following material:
- CV
- Letter of support confirming established contact between home and host laboratories
- Outline of estimated costs
