European initiative INCATE: Phase II funding of a start-up for the development of antimicrobial proteins
The incubator INCATE (INCubator for Antibacterial Therapies in Europe) was founded by a consortium of academic institutions—including the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF)—and industrial partners to support the fight against the global problem of increasing antibiotic resistance. The goal of the non-profit partnership is to bring together academia, industry, experienced entrepreneurs and investors from across Europe and beyond to advance the development of new antibiotics and diagnostics and to support start-up companies in the field. From several start-ups initially funded by INCATE, the start-up „Invitris“ has now been selected for further funding. The Phase II funding of 250,000 euros enables "Invitris" to complete the spin-off from the Technical University of Munich and to scale up the production of antimicrobial proteins in the fight against antibiotic resistance.
