Monkeypox is a rare viral disease that so far occurs mainly in Africa. The virus is related to the human smallpox virus, but is significantly less dangerous.

Detailed description
The infection from person to person usually occurs through close physical contact, mainly via weeping pustules, but also via saliva. Monkeypox is nowhere near as contagious as Sars-CoV-2, but it is now spreading worldwide in many countries. Most people survive the disease well. In Africa, the continent of origin, however, people have already died.
