Short description

The term "resistome" describes all antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) associated with a microbiome.

Detailed description

An example of this is the human gut resistome: It comprises all ARGs that are present in the microorganisms living there. Diseases, but also therapies or the interaction between bacteria and the immune system can imbalance the microbiome or select antibiotic resistances. The increase in antibiotic resistance poses a serious threat to global healthcare.
