Viremia
Short description
Viremia describes the (massive) presence of viruses in the blood.
Detailed description
Viremia occurs in the course of most viral infections. Viremia is usually preceded by the destruction of the host cells in which the viruses have multiplied. A distinction is made between primary viremia, which originates from the original site of infection, and secondary viremia, which originates from secondarily infected tissue after primary viremia. Secondary viremia is often more severe.
