Centre de Recherches Médicales de Lambaréné (CERMEL)

The "Centre de Recherches Médicales de Lambaréné" (CERMEL), Gabon, is one of the leading institutions for malaria research in Africa. For more than 20 years, CERMEL has maintained close research cooperation with the Institute for Tropical Medicine (ITM) at the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen. In joint projects, prevention, diagnostics and therapy of malaria are being advanced. Children suffer disproportionately from malaria in tropical Africa. Therefore, new malaria drugs and combinations for pregnant women and children are investigated within the framework of clinical studies. Improving the treatment of AIDS/HIV and tuberculosis patients is another important shared concern.

The centre is one of four African Partner Institutions with which DZIF scientists already have long-standing collaborations.
