H3D Research Centre
The H3D Research Centre is Africa's first integrated centre for drug discovery and development. Founded at the University of Cape Town in April 2010, the centre aims to discover innovative, life-saving drugs—especially antibiotics—for infectious diseases and to develop platform technologies for drug discovery. The centre also focuses on training African scientists in the field of drug discovery and building Africa-specific models that contribute to improving treatment outcomes for African patients.
In a cooperation agreement signed in 2024, H3D and DZIF agree to build a pipeline for joint drug discovery and development projects. The aim of the pipeline is to investigate the potential application of certain compounds and natural products and their derivatives as therapeutics for infectious diseases. As part of the collaboration, H3D and DZIF scientists will share their expertise in various disciplines such as pharmacology as well as computational and medicinal chemistry.
