Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR)

Research foci of the "Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine" (KCCR) in Ghana are malaria, tuberculosis, salmonellosis (a food infection caused by bacteria) and Buruli ulcer (an infectious disease of the skin and soft tissues common in the tropics). The research centre was founded in 1997 on the basis of a joint state treaty between the Republic of Ghana and the Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Together with the Ministry of Health and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana, the KCCR forms an external research and training facility of the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine. It serves as a platform for international health scientists in cooperation with Ghanaian partners. In 2006, the KCCR was selected as one of seven African study centres to test a malaria vaccine.

In this video, DZIF scientist Dr Oumou Maiga Ascofare talks about the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Group based at the KCCR. The group is part of the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM) in Hamburg, Germany. The main focus is the performance of studies on communicable diseases in humans (active content from YouTube is only loaded and personal data is only transferred to YouTube when this video is called up; more information in our privacy policy).

The centre is one of four African Partner Institutions with which DZIF scientists have long-standing collaborations.
