DZIF Workshop: Investigating Human Trematode Infections in Gabon

The workshop aims to transfer expertise on trematode infections, particularly paragonimiasis and schistosomiasis, to enhance research capacity at the African Partner Site.

Key participants include DZIF members from Tübingen, Heidelberg, and CERMEL, as well as external experts from the London Natural History Museum (LNHM) and Dr. David Aka (Ivory Coast). Fieldwork, guest teaching, and hands-on training in parasitological techniques will be conducted. Preliminary data on paragonimiasis in Gabon, including efforts to sequence its genome, will be presented.

The workshop will also develop research project frameworks for grant applications, promoting collaboration among DZIF partners and international experts. This initiative addresses significant research gaps in trematode studies across Western and Central Africa, advancing the goals of DZIF's TTU Malaria and NTDs program. Target group will be international parasitological scientists of human and wildlife health.
