Introduction to deep learning with R
The goal of this workshop is to teach participants how to build and train neural network models in R. Participants will learn how to transform data to suitable formats for deep learning, build models by stacking network layers and adjusting model architectures to different problems.
The workshop will take place October 11-13, 2023 online.
Agenda:
Wed, Oct 11, 10am-4pm: Deep learning basics, introduction to R Keras, TensorFlow and Google Colaboratory
Thu, Oct 12, 9am-4pm: Overview of different neural network architectures and their applications: applying networks to images and sequential data, model inference and inspection
Fri, Oct 13, 9am-1pm: Usage of deepG, an R library, to train neural networks on genomic data.
Prerequisites: Basic understanding of R: familiarity with basic data types and the ability to apply functions within the language. Participants should feel comfortable with the basics of programming in R and be ready to delve into more advanced machine learning techniques tailored to the biological science. Participation in the "Introduction to R" course in May would be the perfect foundation for this course.
