Seminar series "Infectious disease epidemiology"

The seminar series "Infectious disease epidemiology" offers in 15 seminars a theoretical and practical overview of aims and responsibilities of infectious disease epidemiology as well as its interface with other disciplines and clinical practice.

The course introduces through lectures and interactive exercises the aims and scope of infectious disease epidemiology explaining the links to laboratory and clinical practice. Key concepts of pathogen transmission dynamics, infectious disease surveillance, prevention and control strategies, main principles of epidemiological research, study design and the fundamentals of statistical analysis are discussed at fifteen seminars. A range of different infectious diseases (e.g. sexually transmitted, vaccine-preventable, hospital-acquired, respiratory and gastrointestinal infections) is used as examples.

The online course (WebEx) will be taught in English and is open for under- and postgraduate students and guests free of charge. A certificate of attendance will be given to all participants who attend the course on a regular basis. The 15 sessions in the seminar series will take place on Thursdays from 6.00-7.00 p.m.
