Short description
Typical symptoms of gastrointestinal infections are stomach ache, diarrhea and vomiting. They are caused by bacteria, viruses or parasites.

Detailed description

Small children in developing countries are at particular risk. The main pathogens are adenoviruses, rotaviruses, Clostridioides difficile, Helicobacter pylori, Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Shigella and Staphylococcus aureus. They may cause traveler's diarrhea or foodborne outbreaks. Pathogen transmission usually occurs by a fecal-oral route through a smear infection.
