Detailed description

CRISPR-Cas is a kind of bacterial , which bacteria use to defend themselves against viruses. Scientists exploit CRISPR-Cas9 to switch off certain genes or to insert new genes at the cutting site. It is still controversial, whether CRISPR-Cas9 will routinely be used to treat human disease in the future.
