Detailed description
Noroviruses are a genetically diverse group of non-enveloped single-stranded RNA viruses that belong to the Caliciviridae family. The genus Norovirus comprises one species, the Norwalk virus. Noroviruses occur worldwide and mainly cause gastrointestinal illnesses. Most infections occur between October and March. The pathogens are highly contagious and are usually transmitted from person to person by smear infection. The severe vomiting diarrhoea can quickly lead to a lack of fluids in the body and subsequently to a feeling of weakness or dizziness. The symptoms usually subside completely after 1 to 2 days.
