Zika virus

Zika virus is a flavivirus that is transmitted by the mosquito Aedes aegypti and causes fever, rashes, joint pains and eye inflammation in humans.
Detailed description
Infections with Zika viruses are observed in many tropical and subtropical countries. The transmitting mosquito is not found in Germany. During a huge epidemic in South America in 2015-2017, a connection between infection of pregnant women and malformations of the brains of newborns was identified.
