The Hamburg - Lübeck - Borstel - Riems site concentrates a unique wealth collection of expertise and infrastructure to study infectious diseases and emerging pathogens of national and global relevance and to develop control strategies. Scientists at the location are involved in clinical entomological and virology studies; medicinal chemistry for drug discovery is based here, as are the epidemiology of malaria or translational studies on tuberculosis, viral haemorrhagic fevers, and hepatitis. The site is strongly linked to the DZIF‘s African Partner Institutions through many cooperation projects.
