Infectious diseases professorship with a focus on hepatology
Professor Markus Cornberg is Clinical Director of the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) and Co-Director of the Centre for Individualised Infection Medicine (CiiM). He and his translational research group provide the necessary link between hospitals, the HZI, the HepNet Study-House trial platform and scientific activities at the DZIF. At the Hannover Medical School (MHH), Cornberg is clinically responsible for the Hepatitis Outpatient Clinic and for the Infectious Disease Ward in the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Infectious Diseases and Endocrinology. His research group compiles cohorts of patients with hepatitis infections, including those with liver cirrhosis, and organises the collection and storage of samples. They also carry out research into immunological issues, particularly when physicians are trying to understand why the immune system is only partially able to cure or control hepatitis infections.
